One of the main precepts of Shotokan (which should be applicable to all martial arts) is "Spirit first technique second". This can be interpreted in many ways but fundamentally refers to any technique which must be done with heart, soul and spirit. This includes the explanation and demonstration of technique. This is the duty of the Sensei.
